May. 10th, 2007 | 03:01 pm

I'm probably not gonna be posting here anymore since 1) I'm over at Facebook more regularly and 2) I'm trying to publish a scientific article/finish my thesis/graduate/get married/find a job/sew/get through [fill in the blank]. Ah well. Feel free to remove me as a friend, I won't mind. the only reason i'm not deleting this is because my fiance has a weird sense of nostalgia. To all, it's been fun.

Matane.

Algolagnia, Hematolagnia, and other fun Paraphilia

Apr. 3rd, 2007 | 09:11 pm

I just finished re-reading "Bullets and Knife" by Oze. Monday's Megatokyo mentioned a genre called guro which, naturally, I had to find out more about. Boy howdy... Go ahead and Google or Wiki it if you care. It'll be fun...
I'm not quite sure how to respond to "Bullets and Knife". The story was...ok, it was too short to really have an extensive one. More like a premise than a story, a PWP. But, all you need to know was there was a guy and another guy and there was sex and piercing skin with knives to get off during it all. Would I wanna do something like that for real? No. Would I want to see something like that for real? I dunno. Did I think the imagery was captivating, maybe kind of beautiful? Yes.

Great, something else to keep from the in-laws and churchfolk...

Busy

Mar. 29th, 2007 | 10:28 pm
mood: busy busy

Watching Bobby Flay get his ass handed to him AGAIN on Throwdown until reveling in the madness of Chef Duff and the Charm City Cakes crew in Ace of Cakes. Anyway, quick update: trying to get myself ready for my committee meeting in about 2 weeks and doing wedding stuff since we're now six months away. Also, sewing for Otakon. Not gonna be around much. :3

...ciao for now.

Things that made today awesome

Mar. 22nd, 2007 | 06:57 pm
mood: devious devious

1. Waking up with the kitty.
2. Staying longer in bed than I should have with the kitty draped over me and purring.
3. Cherry blossoms in bloom.
4. Repeatable results that will allow me to move forward with my research.
5. Having a very nice sunny warm day.
6. This week's Naruto scanlation (LOL! 801LUV!). Bless you, Kishimoto-san for making today totally awesome. Heh...

Comida Japonesa

Mar. 3rd, 2007 | 04:11 pm
mood: amused amused

Went to Kroger today, noted a sign on the display window for the Chinese restaurant there. Basically:
Need a person to cook with proficiency in Japanese food

Funny thing was this lone sign was only in Spanish.

Interesting...:3

finding lost work

Feb. 26th, 2007 | 09:35 pm
location: couch on the living room
music: tense 24 background music

XD Today was a happy day. Apart from the boss not being at work and turning in my DC title for Tamahome to get a lien-free NC one (the car is fully mine now!), I found a story I thought I had lost forever! I was in one of my weird moods when i wrote it, basically needed to dump a weird idea out in text so it would leave me alone, but reading it again years later...I still like it lots. :) I'm starting to think maybe I should have a separate LJ account for the fics. I think I will. To the interweb!

Movie Release Calendar

Feb. 24th, 2007 | 10:04 am
location: couch in the living room

I used to collect my ticket stubs, but fell off when I was seeing so many close together. However, in recent history, I haven't been so geared to go to the theater. Haven't gone actually since I saw Curse of the Golden Flower with JD last year. There have been flix that at first I seem excited to go see, but then when I weigh the cost of the ticket and my budget as a grad student against how good I think it may actually turn out, the excitement wanes. Nevertheless, I'm kind of looking forward to this movie year. There are a couple of films I'm really, really anticipating and a few surprises/risks I'm willing to try. How 'bout you?

March
300

April
Grindhouse

May
Spider-man 3
Shrek the Third
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
(It's got Chow Yun Fat AND Johnny Depp! And pirates! SQUEEEEEE! BTW, despite my yarhar love, pirate is NOT the new ninja. Ninja will always trump pirate. XD)

July
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (I will probably end up seeing this multiple times given the number of Potter fan friends I have.)

September
December Boys (Yes, you know why I'm seeing this. Yes, it is an outlier considering my usual tastes. Yes, I will cry unashamedly if it moves me to do so. No, I will not squee like a fangrrl when Radcliffe comes on screen.)

November
Beowulf (I acutally enjoyed reading this in high school...)

No specific release date
Hairspray (I LOVE YOU, JOHN WATERS!)
Sin City 2 (Busy year for Frank Miller, ne?)

If I’m drunk/high/bored enough
Soul Calibur
Dead or Alive

I know, I know, there hasn't been a surplus of good videogame to movie translations, but they're stupid fun guilty pleasures best seen with someone else familiar with the game who can rip it to shreds with ya. :)

horribly belated news of what i did in atlanta

Feb. 22nd, 2007 | 10:35 pm

Can't believe it's been about two weeks since I visited my fiance in Atlanta. Guess I'll give a quick summary 'bout what we did.

Friday
I showed up, and we got food at Checkers, watched NUMB3RS (as is our custom on Friday nights), played with Paris (his kitty), went to sleep.

Saturday
Had brekkie at The Flying Biscuit. Went to the Georgia Aquarium and saw all kinds of cool animals and bought a river otter stuffed toy which I dubbed Connor. Updated my manga collection at Borders. Got dressed up and went to dinner at Alluvia.

Sunday
Had brekkie at the OK Cafe (lives up to it's name...). Chilled until the performance at the Center for Puppetry Arts (you "heard" me) which was a collection of Poe works (including my personal intro to Poe, "The Cask of Amantillado") put on with puppets. Goth puppets rule. And there was a theremin! Had dinner at a great Thai restaurant and tried Voyant. Delicious. Watched our usual shows on Fox.

That's about it. I'm gonna go eat something now. Ciao!

untitled ff8 fic partially written under influence of riesling

Feb. 22nd, 2007 | 10:07 pm

Songs breed stories in my head. After hearing "Pain" by Three Days Grace, this untitled fic is what happened. It's FF8, Squall vs. Seifer (I didn't say Squall x Seifer 'cause it's not really a romantic pair-story but there is longing). Warnings: violence (but not too graphic), cursing ('cause I write like I speak). If you can think of a title for this, I'll be happy. Not betaed, so any mistakes are my own. Don't own anything related to FF8. Couldn't be arsed to format sober, so sorry for no clear breaks between paragraphs. I'll try better next time. Now, let's all be entertained by issues I have. )

Fire on the mountain, run boys run...

Feb. 4th, 2007 | 03:43 am

Before I go to bed after a night of dancing, I just wanted to log the greatest achievement for me during the outing. Last night, I showed that a black girl from DC CAN dance to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". At least one that had taken some country line dancing and tap and could meld the two with a little bit of visual learning from Riverdance and can-can footage. :3

Even impressed the black folks watching. XD

yay! multiple obsessions

Feb. 2nd, 2007 | 12:20 pm
location: the lab
mood: geeky geeky
music: "Bela Lugosi's Dead", Bauhaus (looping for the past 30 min)

Today, I preordered Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the Waldenbooks in the Galleria on Pratt Street in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. "But, why?" you might ask, since I live in Durham. Well, those of you who are going to Otakon aren't asking. :3 That's right: the release is right in the middle of Otakon in B'more. Should be fun showing up in cosplay or GothiLoli for my HP fix. Yay! Multiple obsessions! XD

Badass Uke
Badass Uke
Take Are you a Seme or an Uke? today!
Created with Rum and Monkey's Personality Test Generator.</p>
You are the highest level uke. Other uke admire you, some seme fear you. At times, you can even fool other people into thinking you are seme with your mischievous, manipulative attitude, but when push comes to shove, your true submissive nature emerges - all you really want is the punishment. It takes a seme with just enough sadistic tendencies to dish out the punishment you really want, but enough patience not to outright kill you, so you are best paired with the "Don't Fuck With Me" Seme.

A coalescence of the good

Feb. 1st, 2007 | 03:21 pm
mood: amused amused

Otakon: July 20-22
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: July 21

Life, she is good. ^_^

I've been at home today working on a research paper and because I don't trust Durham's drivers when there's 1 inch of snow on the road. It's been a pretty relaxed day of writing, listening to This is Corrosion (a goth/industrial internet radio channel), and chilling with the cat (who thought I was eating his food because the applesauce cups I have are the same shape and open the same way as his Meow Mix Market Selects). I'll probably clean up the house later today as I'll be helping someone this weekend with cosplay ideas and shouldn't bring them over to a hovel, ne? ^_^
But, the happiness of today, other than a day off endorsed by my boss (yes! i told him why i was home and he said go right ahead! lucky da!), is learning when the last (::sniff::) Harry Potter book is going to come out. AND that as a Borders Reward member, I can get 40% off if I preorder. XD However, I'm sure there are loads of BR members/Harry Potter fans who got the same invite, so the Borders site is running tres slow right now. My plan is to try to get it reserved at a Borders/Waldenbooks in B'more, get my book on Saturday (or, God help me, Friday night if they do a midnight release), and read it while waiting in Otakon lines. :3
Here's hoping!

dir en grey is coming to baltimore...
and i can't go.
the show is at Ram's Head Live on February 5th. A Monday. A MONDAY?! WHO HAS A CONCERT ON A MONDAY?! -__- i can't miss work for that! i have to have priorities now!
on top of that the tickets are 29 advance and 32 at the door (remember, grad student. money is always an issue). and of course, on their latest tour (Inward Scream 2007), they are stopping nowhere remotely near this f*cking burg. >_<
i am going to go to bed now to keep from thinking on this and getting more frowny.
night.
